Richard Hammond was born in Birmingham, but the family soon moved to Ripon.
Richard Hammond's father ran a probate business and his mother was a charity consultant.

Before becoming a TV presenter, Hammond worked in local radio, and in public relations, where he had worked on the Renault account and got to know Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear producer Andy Wilman.
His first breakthrough into TV was working part-time for Men & Motors.
His crash in September 2006 was headline news, however Hammond made an excellent recovery and was determined to get back to Top Gear as soon as possible.
Over 8 million people watched the Top Gear with footage of Richard Hammond's crash on BBC2.
In 2008, Richard Hammond wrote his autobiography, On The Edge: My Story.
His other TV credits include hosting Total Wipeout and Winter Wipeout.
