Sir Peter O'Sullevan is a distinguished former horse racing commentator for the BBC.
Peter O'Sullevan was born in County Kerry in Ireland, and when his parents broke up he stayed with his maternal grandparents, Sir John and Lady Henry in Surrey.
His father was Colonel John Joseph O'Sullevan DSO, resident magistrate of Killarney.
In his younger days Peter O'Sullevan had significant skin problems.
After the second world war, O'Sullevan worked for P.A. and in 1948 he joined the BBC, whilst also writing on racing for the Daily Express.
Sir Peter O'Sullevan was a commentator with the BBC for over 50 years, eventually retiring after the Gold Cup in 1997.
