Peter Sissons, who had presented Channel 4 News, joined the BBC in 1989 as presenter of Question Time as well as joint presenter of the BBC's Six O'clock News.
He moved to The Nine O'Clock News in January 1994 and stayed with the programme when it moved to Ten O'Clock, howver in the autumn of 2002 he moved on to be a regular presenter on BBC News 24.
In June 2009, it was revealed that Peter Sissons was to retire after a TV career spanning 45 years.
