John Cleese was expelled from Clifton College in Bristol, but nevertheless got into Cambridge where he joined the Cambridge Footlights, where he fellow Python, Graham Chapman.
Whilst John Cleese and Graham Chapman were writing and performing in The Frost Report, they met Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin and together they created Monty Python's Flying Circus, which ran from 1969 to 1974.
John Cleese followed up with another major contribution to British comedy, Fawlty Towers.
Fawlty Towers finished its run in 1979.
John Cleese's most famous role then came in the movies in A Fish Called Wanda, for which he received a Bafta for best actor.
