Richard Beckinsale's first major role on TV was in The Lovers but he is best known for his roles in the seventies playing Lennie Godber in Porridge and as Alan in Rising Damp.
However his career was cut short when he died at just 31 in 1979.
9 January 2007 on Radio 4 comedian and actor Alan Davies expounded on Richard Beckinsale in Great Lives.
