Profile Richard Briers's mother was a music and drama teacher.

His cousin was the actor Terry Thomas, who suggested Richard should get into acting.

Briers spent two years with the RAF and then studied drama at RADA in the 1950s.

He won a scholarship to Liverpool Playhouse in 1956.

Richard Briers was a regular on UK TV screens since the sixties.

His notable TV credits included The Good Life and Ever Decreasing Circles.

Richard Briers was made a CBE in the Queen's birthday honours list in 2003.

He died in 2013, aged 79.
